I've not used an electric blanket before. But my bedroom was getting down between 44 - 48 degrees, and I had to do something. So I finally decided to try and electric blanket. My only regret? I DIDN'T GET ONE LONG AGO! I must admit my "ignorance" in the beginning, because I read the instructions. . . . and I looked at the picture. . . and only the electric blanket was on the bed, and the instructions didn't say you could. . . or couldn't put another blanket on top. Well, there in lies the important information that they don't tell you. I asked a friend of mine, who has used an electric blanket for years, and he said YES to put another blanket on top, to hold-in the heat. . . . When I used the electric blanket by itself, it really didn't do the job. . . because all of the heat was escaping. I would have to put it on number "10" (the highest heat setting) to stay reasonably warm. Well, I have a down comforter, and I put that on top, and now I'm totally warm and toasty! It's GREAT! I usually have it on number 2 or 3.
I really like the "preheat" feature, where you turn it on 30-minutes before you go to bed, and then the sheets/bed are nice and warm when you get in.
PLEASE NOTE: The picture is a little misleading. It shows two controls. This only applies if you order the Queen or King size. I ordered the Full, and it comes with only one control, which is fine, because I'm single.
Also, this has a 10-hour cut-off which I really like. There is a way to deactivate this feature, if you don't like it, but personally, I think it's a GREAT feature.
The blanket is a lot like felt. Honestly, I'm not sure how long it's going to hold-up. But because I have a sheet. . then the electric blanket. . . then the comforter on top, I'm in hopes that it will last a fairly long time. The instructions also show that you can wash it.

Bought the king size with dual controls. Works great and certainly holds down the heating cost by turning down the furnace thermostat at night.

It heats up quickly in Pre Heat mode. The first night it was a little sluggish, now its great. It would be great if PH mode turned off automatically, because it gets pretty toasty. The seashell color is great because it doesnt look like the typical pink or blue old fashioned kind of electric blanket. We love the dual controls, a HUGE bonus!

I love the feature of pre-heat on this blanket. It cycles to warm the whole blanket quickly, then backs down. The lowest setting is very mild, not overwhelming like some. The only thing I don't like is the on-off button. It is in the middle of the control. When you sleepingly reach out to turn it on or off, it is easy to miss what button you push. I glued a small felt disc on the button so I will be able to feel it in the dark.
